Our weekly festival, every Tuesday at Dalston Eastern Curve Garden through the summertime with Kentish afro-folk collective Cocos Lovers, the soft intimate calling of The Selkies, and sardonic songwriter duo Molly's Lips.
COCOS LOVERS
Operating well beyond the remit of alt-folk, Cocos Lovers (pronounced Co-Coss) are a distinctive musical force, seamlessly channelling influences from Africa, the US Deep South and several other real and imagined corners of the globe, while staying ever faithful to their Kentish roots.
Hailing from the small but musically rich town of Deal, they are a close-knit 7-piece band of family, friends and former au pairs. Their music swells with powerful choir-like harmonies and glorious widescreen melodies, and they’ve earned a reputation for fantastic live performances with an ever-changing instrumental line-up of mandolin, acoustic and electric guitars, violin, musical saw, flute and a unique blend of drums and percussion.
The latest incarnation of their sound sees a healthy step into more electric realms.
THE SELKIES
Canterbury's youngest stars bring an intimate, unforgettable show featuring vocal harmonies, guitar, keyboard and percussion instruments.
MOLLY’S LIPS
Molly’s Lips are a duo from Deal, Kent made up of members of the band Cocos Lovers. Over the past year they’ve been haunting the drinking holes of deal, honing their sound besides roaring fires, pints of ale and intrigued locals. In 2015 they released a live EP on Smugglers Records which was recorded, mixed and released all in one day. With a full studio album in the works and a tour with label mate and drinking companion Will Varley, the pair are set to bring their music to a much wider audience in 2017.
