Our weekly festival, every Tuesday at Dalston Eastern Curve Garden through the summertime, curated by afro-inspired label Beating Heart with Malawian superstar Faith Mussa, the joyous Madalitso Band, and a DJ set with live percussion from Saronde.
FAITH MUSSA
Faith started playing hand-made gallon guitars when he was 10 years old in the dusty township of Ndirande in Blantyre, Malawi. Since those humble beginnings he has progressed to become Malawi’s first and only “electronic 1 man band” cobining traditional African vibes with Modern Sounds. He has performed all over the world and his sets are delivered with pure passion, soul and fire! He guarantees to bring the hot sun of Malawi to any dance floor with his fat beats and giant badza kazoo.
MADALITSO BAND
Intuitive, authentic, and full of ruthless rhythms, Malawian Madalitso Band has taken Europe by storm. Madalitso will make you clap, dance, smile, and rethink everything you thought you knew about African sound and instrumentation. Madalitso is authentic to the core! "so what that we can't afford instruments, we'll build our own." The music inside Madalitso Band is SO strong, and it comes out effortlessly, full of syncopated rhythms, lush harmonies and a solid back beat.
SARONDE
Saronde’s hugely hyped DJ sets have also been smashing dancefloors across the globe from Kenya to South Africa, the UK and the US. Their recent string of popular releases on Beating Heart fusing the traditional with the contemporary and sounding like nothing else in the process, sees them set to fly even further.
