Urvashi

  • The Jago 440 Kingsland Road London, England, E8 4AA United Kingdom (map)

Join the psych-folk collective for a late night of deep grooves and improvisation.

Urvashi is a new London-based collective formed in January 2023, inspired by the bands interest in rave culture, Indian, Arabic and other forms of traditional folk music. They combine existing and original melodies with their own interpretations of different grooves and rhythms, building on this with extensive improvisation. For their debut EP, Urvashi experiment with the concept of musical structure, attempting to create a free and spacious platform of expression for each musician, whilst developing their own musical language with which they explore as a unit.

Inspired by traditional and modern musical cultures, drawing equally from Qawwali, Arabic Tarab, modal jazz, jungle, techno and drum and bass, to create original songs alongside fresh interpretations. The band work to unite these disparate musical influences coupled with extensive improvisation to create transiently unique live shows.
