RYBES’ genre-defying style sits between alt R&B, broken electronic beats and soul. Creating an orbit with warm, fat, melodic guitar tones and ethereal vocals, her live sets often include strings and horn sections. RYBES’ musical journey has been strongly influenced by her “shero” of a mum, who is a powerful dreamer and manifester, and stands between women such as Ma Rainey, Bessie Smith and Betty Davis renowned for creating their own musical worlds. Growing up in South London, RYBES found an escape through performing arts; singing became her way of conjuring a world of magic filled with melodies, words and rhythms that didn’t exist in reality but were paramount in her imagination.
RYBES has played at Cross the Tracks festival, We Out Here festival, Ronnie Scotts, Soho House, Hackney Round Chapel and many coveted venues. She has supported artists such as Rueben James, Nao, Bel Cobain and Samm Henshaw. Under RYBES’ producer pseudonym, BLK Current, she has produced music for artists such as Nia Wyn and Ni Maxine, amassing acknowledgement from the likes of Quest Love, Pick Up Music, Guitar Girl Mag/ Guitar Mag.
RYBES is an alumni of Tomorrow's Warriors and Julian Joseph Academy, where jazz greats have been nurtured. In Dec 2022, she received funding from The Ronnie Scotts Foundation to support the recording of ‘Wading’, and releases coming out this year. She also received funding from Help Musicians UK, in Jan 2024 for mixing/mastering and PR of her debut EP due to be released in 2024.
