The singer, guitarist and producer blends electronic and acoustic elements with his band, to create his special flavour of 'midnight music', with support from Xativa.
THEO BARD
Theo Bard is a singer/songwriter who has long left his acoustic roots behind him, but maintains his gift to interpret his experience into universal themes.
His sound in 2022 blends a commitment to top-quality musicianship with minimal electronic sounds, and the result is compositions reminiscent of The XX, Ry X and Rufus Du Sol, all bound together with the spirit of Leonard Cohen. Theo's emphasis is on creating an experience with as few sonic elements as possible, so that every part of the music carries weight. The producer has expanded his sound-palette to include sparse electric guitar, hang, synths, and choice drum sounds.
This is midnight music - each element set against a jet-black sky so that its beauty and light can twinkle. The constellations that form on each song find their own shape through relation to one another.
It is on the live stage that the music shines brightest. In collaboration with keyboardist Jake Chapman (Rum Buffalo), drummer Sebastian Bloom and Jacqui Wheeler, the music is woven into a hypnotic feast of guitars, synths and samples. Equal weight is given to vocals and instruments, allowing every element in the ensemble to come to the fore when required, with live looping and vocal harmonizer adding extra depth to Theo's ever-irresistible vocal hooks.
There is a devotion to poetry which lies behind this music; a desire to dig deeper and find words to express the profound atmosphere, while leaving space for emotions which will always remain unsaid.
