The sublime vocalist/composer Kashu's 5-piece ensemble, plus maverick violinist Max Baillie's unique fusion of classical and jazz elements.
KASHU
Joyfully and daringly playing with genre, singer- songwriter Kashu (Olivia Bhattacharjee) provides an accomplished fusion of soul, groove-led blues & jazz-folk.
An antithesis to her beat driven, synth drenched, electronic-soul project Noya Rao, here, she explores songwriting from the heart through playful guitar riffs and honey-drenched vocals, creating an acoustic palette that soothes and scintillates.
Drawing inspiration from the jazz greats to contemporary artists such as Feist, Little Dragon and Nick Hakim, her music aims to speak with honesty and soul.
Here, she performs with a band of musicians she met on the Leeds music scene, a group that form the collective known for their secret jazz venue at Shambala, The Pink Flamingo.
Kashu, now based in London, is set to release her debut EP in 2022.
FRITZ BROTHERS
Violin virtuoso and genre-busting maverick Max Baillie brings you a set of summertime joy with his band the Fritz Brothers. He's played with Stevie Wonder, Bjork, Bobby McFerrin to name but a few, and here he teams up with a very special lineup of musicians: the mighty Ewan Bleach on clarinet and sax, John Kelly and Frank Moon on guitars, and Fred Thomas on bass for a tuneful vibes at the Dalston Curve Garden.
Fritz Brothers take their name from the great old-school violinist Fritz Kreisler, and bring you some of the best tunes from classical music, specially re-imagined: think Chopin and Schubert from New Orleans and 1940s Paris. Listen out for new versions of repertoire by Dvorak, Tchaikovsky, Brahms, Kabalevsky, Rachmaninov and others. Fritz Brothers played their debut show this year to kick off Woodburner’s Summer season to a sold out crowd and a standing ovation. Don’t miss it!
