Tantz + The Nominees + Goldaka + DJ Kobayashi

  • Hootananny Brixton 95 Effra Road London SW2 1DF UK (map)

One night at Hootananny Brixton, 3 incredible bands plus killer DJ sounds all night long.

TANTZ

Leeds-based bohemians Tantz have taken the UK world/roots music scene apart with their full-on musical attack on audiences across the length and breadth of this nation. With awesome musical chops, an energy not seen since punk rock's halcyon days and ability to turn a gentle world music festival crowd into a heaving, pogoing mosh-pit, there's something special about this band that manages to touch almost everyone who hears and sees them live, no matter what music they're into.

A Tantz gig is not just a gig, it's a party, with every show rocking like it's their last, with up to 90 minutes of pure musical maelstrom that encompasses thumping bass lines, frenetic violin fiddling, in-yer-face drums and percussion, ska-punk chopped guitar and stratospheric soaring clarinet solos played so fast Charlie Parker would be proud of them.

They describe their sound "frenzied hyper klezmer", which gives you an idea but doesn't even come close. BBC Radio Leeds Introducing presenter Alan Raw did a better job saying "prepare to dance till it nearly does you in".

THE NOMINEES

The Nominees are a London based stripped-down raw funk outfit. Focusing on tight, neck snapping grooves and infectiously catchy and joyous melodies, they have received rave reviews after causing serious seismic activity on the dance-floors of the capital. The Nominees are joined for this special show by legendary Hackney MC Snagga.

GOLDAKA

A luxurious fusion of deep soul and bass music, all infused with liquid gold

A live band very much at heart, Goldaka is a group that energize their immersive performance into their studio recordings. The group’s sound captures elements of hip hop, jazz and soul, with a dabble of electronic synth-bass splendor. Goldaka have branded their own touch from darker influences including J Dilla and Portishead while preserving a love for atmospheric acts such as Bonobo and Flying Lotus.

Blending head-nodding percussive grooves with circulating basslines, their sound adds effortless keys and trumpets smoothed over with poignant and thought-provoking lyrics. Powerfully intrinsic and mellow music that’s shrouded in glitz and mystique makes Goldaka in a league of their own.

DJ KOBAYASHI

DJ Kobayashi is been digging for music around the world, you could say it’s his full time job! Anything that got a groove and the right melodies makes him pick the records.

His style varies from Mediterranean sounds to the Balkans and East Europe, however he is not foreign to the electronic beats, “Its start to get really interesting when you get producers/DJ mixing old sound with new beats”.

He is also a member of Gypsy Hill, where they combining balkan beats and Mediterranean grooves.
