Theo Bard + Modou Toure + Amadis & the Ambassadors + Hen Daddy Whirl

  • Hootananny Brixton 95 Effra Road London, SW2 1DF United Kingdom (map)

Late night live music at Hootananny Brixton.

THEO BARD

Theo Bard blends instantly accessible songwriting with virtuosic guitar sounds, taking in blues, reggae, afro and spoken word influences. A direct and confident performer, his live shows feature deep grooves and top-class musicianship, drawing on a deep appreciation of contemporary and roots music.

A chronicler of people, place and experience, Theo's songs manage to be at once familiar, anthemic and utterly unique.

He brings a classical training on violin, years spent as a busker in London’s markets, afro-inspired collaborations on percussion and bass, and winters in the studio honing his skills as a producer of electronic music. On the night, expect a full band show featuring musical titans including Max Baillie, Ewan Bleach and Tansay Omar, Hans Sutton, and much much more.

MODOU TOURE

Modou Toure Headshot.png

Heir of the legendary group Touré Kunda, the first African group to achieve worldwide fame in the 1980s, Modou Touré was born into music. His voice strikingly echoes that of his father, Ousmane Touré, who was the inspiration for his choice of career. For Modou, looking for beautiful melodies is the "center of gravity" of his compositions. This inspires his lyrics (in Wolof, Mandingo, Soninke or English) and his music. He sings evocatively of the ills of modern society, the teachings of the elders, friendship and romantic relationships, hope etc. His ultimate finesse, his pure and sharp guitar playing harmoniously introduces drums, bass, percussion and the electric guitar. Using highly groovy rhythms, sometimes afro beat, pop-rock or funk, Modou reveals the power and beauty of his sublime voice, carrying us from Dakar to London via Paris and back!
